About Adelaide City FC
Adelaide City FC was founded in 1946 by a community of post-war Italian immigrants, initially under the name Juventus and later Adelaide Juventus, before finally becoming Adelaide City in 1977. The club quickly established itself as a powerhouse in South Australian soccer, winning its first state league championship in 1953 and dominating local competitions throughout the 1950s and 60s.
The club became a founding member of the National Soccer League (NSL), Australia’s first national competition, in 1977. In the NSL era, Adelaide City cemented its status as one of the country’s most decorated clubs, securing three national championships (in 1986, 1991–92, and 1993–94) and three national cups, in addition to winning the Oceania Club Championship. The club withdrew from the NSL in 2004 and returned its focus to the South Australian state competition, the National Premier Leagues (NPL), where it continues to maintain a history of success in local league and cup competitions.
